Alameda Pediatric Dentistry & Pleasanton Pediatric Dentistry

For more than 25 years in Alameda, our pediatric dental office has specialized in treating young children and adolescents. We now have a second office in Pleasanton for families in the Tri-Valley area. Dr. Robert W. Oliver began the practice in Alameda in 1970. Dr. David Perry joined the office as a partner 3 years later and took over as the primary dentist after Dr. Oliver retired from the office in 1989. In 2003, Dr. Karen Taniguchi joined the practice. In 2005, Dr. Sharine Thenard, a former patient, also joined. Dr. MyLinh Ngo joined the practice in 2008. Our pediatric dentists undergo several years of additional training beyond dental school and are uniquely qualified to treat children, including those with special needs.

One of the key philosophies in our office is prevention. We provide infant oral exams, tooth cleanings, fluoride, sealants and oral hygiene instruction. As your child grows and develops, we will be following how the adult teeth erupt and evaluating the need for braces or orthodontics. For children who need oral rehabilitation, we can provide white, or tooth-colored fillings. For more extensive restorative needs, crowns or caps may be indicated.

For some kids, the dental environment can be scary initially. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to safely calm your child. For children unable to cooperate due to anxiety, we can provide oral sedation to help with the dental procedure.  For very young children, or those with extensive dental needs, board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists can provide in-office general anesthesia. For our special needs patients, we have staff privileges at Children’s Oakland Hospital.
