|What to Expect Right After Getting Braces
Congratulations on just getting a new set of braces! You have now started the journey towards that straight, confident smile you have always wanted. If you want to know what to expect the first few weeks, you have come to the right place. Here are a few things to be mindful of when it comes to adjusting to braces.
Your teeth are going to feel a bit odd for the first few days, but that will disappear. You won't even really notice the braces are there in just a couple of weeks. Typically, between day two and day four, your teeth are going to be a bit sore. This can be managed with simple over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen. You should avoid eating anything too hard, as that can hurt your teeth since they are already sore, plus it can push on your braces, brackets, and wires, causing damage.
Expect your diet to remain relatively soft for the first week, including foods like eggs, pasta, yogurt, soup, and potatoes. After the first week, you can slowly begin eating foods that are a little bit harder, but avoid hard-to-chew items like carrots for another week or two. Make sure you brush your teeth really well and get used to flossing now. The sooner you adjust to the changes in your mouth, the healthier your mouth will be able to stay.
